AIRPORT

Ortigia is wonderfully walkable. The narrow cobblestone streets, hidden piazzas, and seaside promenades are best explored on foot.


For the wedding day, we'll provide shuttle service from Ortigia to Castello Xirumi and back. Departure times will be confirmed closer to the date.


If you plan to explore beyond Siracusa (which we highly recommend!), a rental car is the most flexible option. Taxis are also available for day trips & the iconic Sicilian TukTuks are also a great option to get around.

GETTING TO SIRACUSA

Fly into Catania Fontanarossa Airport (CTA), the closest major airport to Siracusa, approximately 45 minutes by car.

GETTING AROUND

FROM THE AIRPORT, YOU CAN REACH SIRACUSA BY:

  • Private Transfer: Pre-book a driver for stress-free arrival (~€60-80) we will share options closer to the date

  • Taxi: Available at the airport, approximately €70-90

  • Bus: Interbus runs regular service to Siracusa (~€6, 1 hour)

  • Rental Car: Great for exploring Sicily at your own pace (We recommend reserving a car with the following agencies - AVIS, SICILY BY CAR, & GOLD CAR)

US Passport Holders

No visa required. US passport holders do not need a visa to travel to Italy for stays under 90 days.

  • Issued within the past 10 years

  • Valid for at least 3 months beyond your travel dates

  • At least 2 blank pages remaining

⚠️ IMPORTANT: ETIAS — New for 2026 The EU is introducing a new travel authorization system called ETIAS, which will require US citizens to complete a quick online application before traveling to Italy. It takes just a few minutes and costs €7. We recommend applying as soon as it becomes available. You can find more information and apply at etias.com.

Non-US Passport Holders If you are traveling on a non-US passport, please check your individual country's entry requirements for Italy as visa requirements may differ.

Late October in Sicily is warm but not hot — think low to mid 70s during the day, dropping to the low 60s at night. Light layers for the evening are a good idea, especially in Ortigia which can get a sea breeze.
